What is a private photo vault app?
Privately is a photo vault app for iPhone. It encrypts photos and videos on the device, and the key never leaves the iPhone. There is no cloud library and no account.
How does Privately encrypt photos and videos?
Each photo and video is sealed with AES-256-GCM. Your PIN wraps the key, and the iPhone Secure Enclave holds it. Encryption stays on the device.
Is the iPhone Hidden album an encrypted photo vault?
The Hidden album takes a photo out of the main grid. It still opens with the same passcode as the phone, and the file stays in your photo library. A locked album in Privately uses its own password. Those photos leave the timeline, search, and favorites, and they are encrypted on the device.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Photos and videos stay on the iPhone. Privately has no accounts and no tracking, and no server stores your library.
What if I forget my PIN?
If Allow Forgot PIN Reset is on, the lock screen can set a new PIN with Face ID. The encryption key stays in place, so the photos stay. If that setting is off, there is no reset, and Privately cannot open them.
